Children’s Aid Club provides and supports many initiatives throughout the year. The single largest initiative is funded through the Immediate Response Fund for Individuals. The primary objective of this Fund is to help children and their families that fall on hard times. We provide immediate assistance in urgent situations and follow up with additional assistance as needed to help the families get back on track and become self sufficient. Children’s Aid Club provides support in the following areas, across several different organizations. |

Below are a few examples of how CAC has helped these families: A Mother, Father and Two Children: The father had gall stones, required 3 surgeries and was in the hospital for 6 weeks, unable to work. CAC gave them food certificates, paid child care, FPL, water, car payment, and car insurance for one month. This enabled them to keep up with their bills while the father recovered. He is back at work and they are back on their feet. A Single Mother with Three Children: Their power was disconnected just before Christmas. CAC had the power turned on in time for Christmas and a friend of CAC provided free legal advise. The mother has since gone to nursing school so she can work in home health and her legal problems are being dealt with through an attorney. A Severely Autistic Child: The child has an extremely severe form of autism and the parents had gone through all of their savings and exhausted every social service solution. In addition, the mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. CAC provided funding for a special therapy program to which the child was responding and was not covered by insurance. CAC has also funded training for the parents, so they can work more effectively with him at home, with the goal of a better quality of life and some form of independence for him. A Mother with Seven Children: The mother, whose husband was serving in Kuwait, had a series of health issues requiring hospitalization, as well as a car accident, which caused her to lose her job. This resulted in delinquent rent, disconnected power and no food for the children. CAC paid the rent, restored the power, provided food certificates, brought boxes of food, and provided holiday baskets for the family. The mother has since regained her health, her job, and is now self sufficient. A Single Mother with One Child: The mother had lost her job due to company downsizing and was living with her father, who was blind and could not care for the child. She had just found another job and affordable child care but wouldn’t receive a paycheck for two weeks. CAC paid the first two weeks of child care for a grateful and now self sufficient family. A Single Mother and Three Children: The mother worked for a severely handicapped man who died, leaving her without employment. CAC paid her rent and car expense, and members hired her for house cleaning to help stabilize her work income while she got back on her feet. A Mother and Daughter: CAC paid for an emergency stay at a hotel to allow them to escape domestic violence/abuse from the father. |
