Each year CAC shops for and assembles close to 300 layettes (diapers, wipes, ointment, shampoo/body wash, lotion, blanket, sleeper, onesie, outfit, socks, bib, etc.). Layettes contain enough supplies for a newborn for the first month.  The majority of these layettes are provided to CDTC, which uses them as a tool to reach out to the mothers with infants born  prematurely or with various illnesses and disabling conditions.

A visiting nurse has a chance to meet with the

mother and newborn at home to assess the home

environment and family structure.  Often the

nurse will use the items in the layette to teach

the new mother how to care for her newborn.
